AIRLINE INFORMATION

CUSTOM TRAVEL LTD.

Airline transportation to South Africa is not included with any of our safaris.  Your local travel agent can assist you with these arrangements, however some of them are not familiar with Southern Africa and traveling with your hunting rifles.  If you are looking for an agent that has experience in this field we highly recommend Custom Travel LTD in Greenfield, WI.  They have not only the experience to provide your air travel, but can also assist you with other helpful information, such as information on the area you'll be visiting, health, firearm transportation and insurance related facts and more.  Call them toll free at 800-728-5301 or visit their web site at www.customtravelafrica.com for detailed information.

SOUTH AFRICAN AIRWAYS

For hunters from the USA we highly recommend South African Airways as they have the only direct flights daily via Atlanta or New York to Johannesburg, which is the most convenient city for your connecting light to Zimbabwe.  Although there are other carriers that you can use for the final leg of your flight, South African Airways is distinctively a class above other African airlines in terms of service and reliability with a 99.8% take-off record.  You can visit South African Airways web site at http://www.flysaa.com/saa_home.jhtml for flight schedules and information.

Afton Guest House

There is nothing more frustrating than missing a connecting flight from Johannesburg to Zimbabwe and baggage transfer issues that may occur.  Our recommendation to ensure that your safari starts out on the right foot and that you are rested after your long transatlantic flight to Africa is to stay in Johannesburg overnight before continuing on to Zimbabwe.  The Afton Guest House is the ideal bed and breakfast accommodations for your stay.  They offer professional meet and greet services upon your arrival and are located only 5 minutes away from Johannesburg International Airport.  Hunters the world over highly recommend the excellent service and hospitality of Louis and Annelise.  Custom Travel mentioned above, can handle your reservation needs or you can email them directly at aftongh@netactive.co.az.  Click on the picture below for a link to their web site.

TRANSPORTATION

Zimbabwe's road network exceeds 100,000 km's, providing a link to all surrounding countries with a fairly well maintained system.  Driving is done on the left hand side of the road and the general speed limit on open roads is 120 km/h and 60 km/h in urban areas although many people drive over the speed limits.  Travelers should exercise extra caution when driving at night due to pedestrians (in dark clothing) and animals walking in the poorly lit roads.  Depending on the country of issue, your valid driver's license, which must contain a picture, is good for 90 days or more.  Drivers are required to wear seat belts and helmets are required for motorcycles.

There are 4 main airports in Zimbabwe: Harare, Victory Falls, Kariba and Bulawayo and charter sir services are available for remote areas.  Harare is serviced by several international air carriers although Bulawayo (which is our normal arrival airport) is only serviced by Air Zimbabwe and South African Airways from Johannesburg.
