Zimbabwe is a uniquely beautiful country offering a wide diversity of scenery,
wildlife and natural attractions. It is a landlocked country located in
Southern Africa whose borders are surrounded by Botswana to the west, Zambia to
the north, Mozambique to the east and South Africa to the south. Zimbabwe
is a Shona word meaning "zimba ramabwe"
or royal house of stone. In area
it is slightly larger than Montana with the terrain mostly high plateau with
grasslands and mountainous area in the east. The mighty Zambezi River
where you can visit the world famous and massive Victoria Falls, which during
the rainy season is the world's largest curtain of falling water, forms its
northern boundary. Further downstream from the falls is the enormous Lake Kariba. This man-made lake was formed in 1958 by the damming of the
Zambezi at Kariba creating an almost 2000 square mile lake that is now an
attraction in its own right. Zimbabwe's southern border is the Limpopo
River and between it and the Zambezi River you will find one of Africa's largest
and most impressive concentrations of wildlife, national parks and stupendous
scenery.
