Trophy Safaris Africa is located in the KwaZulu Natal Province of South Africa.  More information on this scenic and historical province is available on our WELCOME page.  Our 3 unique hunting areas are described below.

BASE CAMP HUNTING AREA:

Our base camp is located in the malaria free Umkomaas Valley on the banks of the Umkomaas River.  Umkomaas means “gatherer of waters”.  This area is true African bushveld with a mixture of open and forested hills and streams with a constant view of the surrounding peaks.  This valley is the birth place of one of the most famous sentences in South African literature.  Alan Paton describes these hills as “Lovely beyond any singing of it”.  The idyllic setting of our camp offers the most scenic views along with the ambiance of the usual African sounds combined with the tranquility of the small rapids located just below your chalet.   This prime Free Range hunting area contains over 50,000 acres which has some of the best trophies that are available in the entire province.  Here you will find record book quality Nyala and Bushbuck along with some of the best Blue and Gray Duiker hunting in the entire country.  Excellent hunting for Kudu, Impala, Blesbok and other plains game is found almost at your doorstep.

MIDLANDS AREA:

This region of the province runs from our base camp hunting area to the Drakensberg Mountains (Drakensberg means Dragon) in the west.  The landscape in this beautiful region is filled with stretches of farm land and contains areas with green pastures, hills and forests and is rich with water including rivers, lakes, dams and waterfalls.  This area is famous for what is referred to as the Midlands Meander.  This all started in 1985 with a small number of crafters who put their talents together to create an arts and crafts route.  The Midlands Meander is now a wonderfully refreshing mix of over 150 places at which to eat, drink and shop.  Our hunting area is in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains and contains excellent hunting for Common Reedbuck, Mountain Reedbuck, Vaal Rhebuck as well as Eland, Blesbok, Black Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest and Bushbuck.  This area is open country ranging from hilly to mountainous.  Even though it is open country, shots are very rarely over 250 yards.

ZULULAND AREA:

Zululand is the heart of the Zulu Kingdom which extends along the coast of the Indian Ocean north of the Tugela River.  Zululand is the traditional homeland of the Zulu people.  Our hunting area would be considered the coastal thornveld and is much like the veld that is found in the Limpopo Province.  This area is a 3 hour drive from Durban and is where we hunt the Red Duiker and the Livingstone Suni.  This area is a malaria area and malaria preventative medication should be taken.
